Job Description
We are hiring Garden Maintenance Worker or Gardener is responsible for maintaining and improving the appearance of gardens, landscapes, and outdoor spaces. The job can be residential, commercial, or for larger public spaces like parks or resorts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lawn and Garden Care:
- Mow, water, and fertilize lawns to ensure healthy grass growth.
- Trim hedges, shrubs, and trees regularly to maintain a neat and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
- Weed garden beds and lawns to prevent unwanted growth and ensure a tidy landscape.
- Planting and Landscaping:
- Plant flowers, shrubs, and trees according to seasonal requirements and aesthetic plans.
- Mulch flower beds, vegetable patches, and other planted areas to retain moisture and improve soil health.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of landscape features like rock gardens, pathways, and water features.
- Pruning and Tree Care:
- Prune plants and trees to promote healthy growth and shape, removing dead or damaged branches.
- Identify potential hazards in trees and shrubs and recommend or implement removal if necessary.
- Soil and Fertilization:
- Prepare soil for planting by digging, aerating, and mixing in necessary nutrients.
- Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and other treatments as needed to protect plants and ensure growth.
- Maintenance of Garden Tools and Equipment:
- Regularly clean and maintain gardening tools and equipment, including lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, and power tools.
- Ensure all tools and machinery are in safe working order.
- Waste Removal and Disposal:
- Collect and dispose of garden waste such as grass clippings, fallen leaves, and pruned branches.
- Ensure that waste disposal complies with local guidelines and is done in an environmentally responsible manner.
- Irrigation and Watering:
- Ensure proper irrigation systems are set up and functioning efficiently.
- Manually water plants and lawns as required, especially during dry spells or if automated systems are not in use.
- Seasonal Care:
- Prepare gardens for seasonal changes, including winterizing plants, covering vulnerable areas, and ensuring proper maintenance during all weather conditions.
- Assist with spring planting and fall cleanup to ensure that gardens thrive year-round.
- Health and Safety:
- Follow health and safety regulations when using chemicals, machinery, and equipment.
- Wear appropriate protective gear (gloves, boots, etc.) when carrying out physical tasks.
- Customer Service and Communication:
- If the role involves working on client properties, interact professionally and courteously with clients.
- Provide advice on plant care, pest control, and other garden-related inquiries.
- Report any issues or observations that may require attention (e.g., pest infestations, diseased plants).
- Additional Duties:
- Assist in the design or redesign of garden spaces when requested.
- Occasionally assist with landscaping projects, such as laying turf, installing garden features, or creating garden designs.
